Job description

Our client is hiring for a Systems Administrator. This is a 6-month Independent Contract based in Pretoria or Johannesburg.

The System Administrator is responsible for ensuring that delivered solutions provide service and meet Service Level requirements. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and hardware, along with associated operating systems. The System Administrator will apply proven communication and structured problem-solving procedures to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the performance and availability of solutions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing 2 years of experience in a similar technical support role
  • Managing IT Infrastructure: OS (Windows, Linux)
  • Working with Virtual environments (VMware or other)
  • Troubleshooting and debugging live applications
  • Prioritizing and executing tasks in high-pressure environments
  • Collaborating effectively within a team
  • Communicating technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Administering Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with virtualization administration and troubleshooting
  • Managing web/application servers (e.g., Apache)
  • Understanding organizational goals and objectives
  • Proficient in English, both written and oral
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues within SLA or OLA
  • Escalating tickets appropriately and documenting support activities
  • Reproducing and documenting technical issues for escalation
  • Maintaining support documentation and system configuration records
  • Collaborating with network staff to ensure reliable system operation
  • Ensuring system connectivity and performance monitoring
  • Performing system modifications testing and reporting
  • Carrying out maintenance activities following established procedures
