SUMMARY :
We are looking for a Supply Quality Technician for the Pietermaritzburg area.
POSITION INFO :
Roles & Responsibilities Overview :
- Solve supplier quality issues and ensure the effective implementation of corresponding quality control measures.
- Identify and evaluate potential risks and problems related to supplier quality, track and urge the completion of recertification / requalification (PPAP), and promote continuous improvement to enhance the supplier’s product quality and process capability.
- Coordinate parts and process approval submissions according to milestones and release them accurately to production at SOP.
- Establish and update the Supplier Quality Agreement with suppliers to ensure they meet relevant requirements.
- Responsible for PPAP approval of suppliers before mass production, according to submission requirements.
- Formulate incoming product inspection documents and conduct on-the-job training and assessments for inspection personnel.
- Respond promptly to supplier quality problems identified in procurement, site, or customer feedback, implement containment measures, and follow up to resolve issues (SCARS).
- Monitor the completion of post-production type tests for supplies.
- Evaluate products, develop steps, and conduct process audits after supply consultation.
- Manage key and risk suppliers through process audits and self-assessments.
- Collect and summarize supplier performance data to improve product quality and process capability (Customer Scorecards).
- Ensure work ability meets specific customer requirements.
- Utilize quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, Control Plan.
- Familiar with IATF16949 quality system standard.
- Understand related products and processes.
- Adopt a process approach and problem-solving mindset.
- Participate in inspection and testing of procured products/services when necessary.
- Ensure suppliers meet deliverables requirements and are knowledgeable of customer-specific requirements.
Knowledge & Skills :
- Experience with quality tools: APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, Ishikawa, 5WHY, Control Plan, IMTE, Calibration, Drawings, Specifications.
- Experience with IATF16949 & VDA6.3 quality standards.
- Process auditing experience per VDA6.3 and IATF16949.
- Knowledge of automotive components and related processes preferred.
- Initiative and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels.
- Quick learner with technical problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of steel and plastic forming technologies preferred.
- Willing to travel for supplier concerns or audits.
Internal Customers include: Production, Support Structures, Purchasing, Finance.
Job Specification
Technical skills and specialist knowledge :
- Proficiency in MS Office and problem-solving tools.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, Ishikawa, 5WHY, Control Plan, IMTE, Calibration, Specifications.
- Understanding of GD & T and ability to interpret technical drawings.
Experience :
- Minimum 5 years in Supplier Quality/Quality Assurance in the automotive industry.
- At least 2 years in a similar role.
Qualifications :
- Grade 12 (mandatory).
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Quality (preferred).
- Qualified VDA 6.3 Process Auditor.
- Qualified IATF16949 internal and 3rd party Process Auditor.
- Experience with core tools, SPC & MSA.
