Placements24 invites an experienced Subsurface Data Manager to lead the integrity and accessibility of geological, geophysical, and engineering data in Nelspruit/Mpumalanga. You will shape data governance, standards, and strategies for analysis by technical teams.

You will oversee data workflows, quality control, and security while collaborating with geoscientists and engineers. A hybrid work model offers flexibility and collaboration opportunities in Nelspruit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in subsurface data management within the oil and gas industry.
• Proven expertise in managing large volumes of diverse subsurface data (seismic, well logs, core data, production data, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL) and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with E&P data management software and platforms (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix, IDS).
• Understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical teams.
• Proficiency in data quality control and assurance processes.
• Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive subsurface data management strategies and policies.
• Oversee the acquisition, validation, storage, and archiving of geological, geophysical, and engineering data.
• Establish and enforce data standards, quality control procedures, and metadata requirements.
• Manage subsurface databases and information systems, ensuring their efficiency and reliability.
• Collaborate with geoscientists and engineers to understand their data needs and provide solutions.
• Implement data security measures and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
• Develop and deliver training programs for staff on data management best practices and systems.
• Monitor data trends and identify opportunities for data improvement and optimization.
• Manage vendor relationships for data management software and services.
• Ensure timely and accurate data delivery to support exploration, development, and production activities.
