Job description

Job title : Sub-Section Commander : Cyber Crime Investigation (Lieutenant Colonel)

Job Location : Gauteng, Germiston

Deadline : May 11, 2025

Generic Requirements :

  1. Applicant must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post;
  2. Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12);
  3. Be proficient in at least two (2) official languages, of which one (1) must be English;
  4. Must be a South African citizen;
  5. Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal or departmental cases pending;
  6. Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening;
  7. Be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence;
  8. Must not have tattoos which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service;
  9. Relevant courses in the field of the post may be an advantage.

Additional requirements :

  1. A three (3) year Diploma / Degree (SAQA accredited on NQF level 6 or higher) in Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Criminology, Information Technology and Forensic Science or other related field of study, with three (3) years relevant experience in the field of post of which two (2) should be on supervisory level.

Core Functions :

  1. Monitor the establishment and development of a court oriented, Specialised online investigation, unauthorized access investigation and open source and social media investigation capacity within the DPCI;
  2. Monitoring of online investigations, unauthorised access investigation and open source and social media investigation nationally and internally;
  3. Ensure coordination on priority cybercrime related investigations;
  4. Ensure evaluation of priority cybercrime investigations and national projects;
  5. Research and development of cybercrime investigative methodologies and standing operational procedures;
  6. Overseeing conformation to- and applying standards for information security, as prescribed by the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) and Protection of Information Act;
  7. Manage and utilize all resources (human, physical and financial) allocated to the immediate post environment in accordance with relevant directives and legislation.
