Job description

Main Purpose: The Sub Regional Tax Manager will support the Group's Head of Tax.

The function comes with responsibility and accountability within the Group's Tax team over an end-to-end tax risk management cycle involving compliance, audit risk management, and strategic projects such as group rationalization, advisory, and transactional support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  1. Developing, monitoring, and maintaining tax design behind Puma Energy's corporate structure considering the global tax strategy set out by the Group Head of Tax and risk assessment of operational jurisdictions.
  2. Analysis and delivery of solutions for global, trans-regional tax developments (such as ATAD, MDR, and BEPS).
  3. End-to-end tax management of assessable risk or uncertain tax positions (strategy & structuring, accounting & reporting, compliance, controversy & dispute resolution, transfer pricing, control framework).
  4. Management of the tax compliance cycle for the southern regional jurisdictions.
  5. Management and monitoring of the divisional tax position including tax accounting, compliance, and year-end audit.
  6. Tax accrual process for the region both for corporate income tax and transactional taxes.
  7. Manage tax audits and tax litigation, including negotiations with local tax authorities.
  8. Managing market entry and exit positions in terms of tax optimization of strategies relating to financing, thin capitalization, repatriation in a foreign exchange currency-controlled environment, treaty access, and economic substance.
  9. Develop, implement, and maintain tax reporting tools.
  10. Work with the internal team to ensure accuracy of tax forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning strategies.
  11. Ensure effective use of external advisers - in terms of quality and cost.

Requirements:

  1. University degree in tax law or fiscal economics.
  2. Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in international tax mainly focused on the Africa region.
  3. In-depth knowledge of corporation and international tax law and transactional tax concepts and its practical applications.
  4. Experience in an in-house tax department and/or M&A tax practice is a pre-requisite.
  5. Experience in providing & explaining tax guidance to non-tax professionals.
  6. Good understanding of accounting concepts and processes.

  2. Strong communication (verbal and written skills, fluent in business English).
  3. Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills including how to access & collect relevant data from systems and use them for the delivery of solutions.
  4. Proven track record in leading, directing, and coordinating projects and initiatives.
  5. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  6. IT skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, PPT.
