RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide individual and / or group counselling (including crisis intervention / debriefing) to students in need of mental health support
  • Acting as a point of contact for all student wellness support and development needs
  • Take on a lead role in student wellness and mental health awareness campaigns and projects
  • Responding to and resolving student queries within thestipulated time frames
  • Involved in termly orientation per new cohort
  • Develop and implement mental health outreach initiatives, including workshops, group sessions, and community events, to promote mental health and wellness among students
  • Tracking and documenting national student wellness support and development metrics
  • Study plans and career guidance
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop and implement policies and programs that support student well-being and promote a healthy campus environment. Identifying at-risk students and tracking retention
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions with students, including progress notes and treatment plans
  • Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in mental health counselling and wellness promotion
  • Utilising SACAP’s Student Management System to provide expert guidance to SACAP students
  • May act as site coordinator to student counsellors completing their practicum / Work Integrated Learning hours

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

  • A minimum of a degree qualification in the discipline of Counselling, Psychology or Coaching; or at least 5-years’ of experience in a cognate field
  • Registered with HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor
  • Advanced computer literacy skills, including online systems.
  • 2 years of full-time experience, preferably within the field of Higher Education.
  • Highly developed relationship-building / interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
