Job description

RPO Recruitment's client, a leading civil and structural engineering consulting firm in South Africa, is currently seeking to hire a qualified Professional Structural Engineer to join their successful team in Johannesburg as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

• Conceptual and detailed design development on multiple complex projects
• Provide efficient structural engineering solutions to meet project requirements
• Focus on detailed structural design using the latest relevant software and first principle hand calculations
• Assist with budgets, resourcing, and outsourcing within the department
• Develop design ability and quality
• Draft technical reports of acceptable quality
• Provide technical solutions and develop an appreciation of outcomes
• Check and take responsibility for the work of others
• Present technical work and service offerings to potential clients
• Draft responses to straightforward bids (assist with commercial aspects)
• Develop knowledge of project management's commercial aspects
• Assign work to others
• Identify and follow up on leads for additional work
• Understand Functional Unit technologies and markets
• Supervise Engineers or Technicians in checks and inspections for compliance
• Ensure quality assurance throughout project lifecycle
• Assist management staff and manage sub-consultants
• Communicate with clients on general matters
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Draft and implement Works Authorisations / Variation Orders
• Coordinate tasks and staff
• Support verification of subconsultants' invoices
• Support drafting and submission of work authorisations
• Provide technical support to other departments
• Develop and maintain client relationships
• Assist in financial planning, forecasting, and revenue recognition
• Support marketing efforts and project acquisition
• Ensure timely and within-budget project completion
• Mentor graduates and manage work allocation
• Oversee project submissions like EOIs, RFQs, tenders, and proposals

Requirements:

• BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering
• Minimum 10 years relevant experience in a consulting environment
• Minimum 2-3 years post-professional registration experience
• Excellent report writing skills
• Proficiency in relevant design software
• Presentable with excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of project financials, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing
