Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Cape Town to design and oversee coastal and high-rise developments along the Western Cape coastline. You will ensure structural integrity using advanced modeling tools and collaborate with architects, PMs, and specialists to deliver resilient infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Structural Engineering, Pr Eng with ECSA, and 8+ years of experience in building and infrastructure design, including coastal environments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA.
• 8+ years post-graduate structural engineering experience.
• Coastal/marine design experience is advantageous.
• Proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RAM.
• AutoCAD and/or Revit for detailing.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for buildings, bridges, and coastal infra.
• Develop detailed drawings, specs, and calculations with modeling software.
• Conduct site inspections and verify compliance with safety standards.
• Coordinate with architects, PMs and consultants for integrated solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to design teams and construction personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects, with a focus on coastal environments.
• Develop detailed structural drawings, specifications, and calculations using advanced modeling software.
• Conduct site inspections and structural assessments to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other consultants to achieve integrated project solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to design teams and construction personnel.
• Assess and manage the risks associated with structural design and construction in challenging environments.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, South African National Standards (SANS), and international best practices.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural engineering technology and materials.
• Participate in project meetings and contribute to the overall project strategy and execution.

Requirements

• Master's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration as a Pr Eng with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• A minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in structural engineering, with significant experience in building and infrastructure design.
• Demonstrated experience in designing for coastal or marine environments is highly advantageous.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, and/or RAM Structural System.
• Expertise in AutoCAD and/or Revit for detailed design documentation.
• Thorough knowledge of material behavior under various environmental conditions, including corrosion resistance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solver capabilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting in **Cape Town**.
