Job summary

Lumax energy is seeking an experienced Structural engineer to deliver design, analysis and documentation for solar PV systems (SAT, Carports, Groundmounts, Rooftop) in line with SANS standards in South Africa. You will design reinforced concrete, steel, aluminium and cold-formed elements and perform wind loading assessments.

Responsibilities include reporting, site inspections, and collaboration with clients and contractors, with a focus on safe, economical, high-quality designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering
• Practical experience with SANS design codes and wind loading
• Proficient in structural analysis software and hand calculations
• Strong reporting and communication skills
• Driver’s license and own car
• Mentoring junior engineers and graduates recommended

Responsibilities

• Design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, aluminium, and cold-formed steel elements (conceptual and detailed)
• Perform structural analysis per SANS 10160/10162 and relevant codes
• Use Prokon/AutoCAD and verify results with hand calculations
• Prepare design reports, calculation packages, drawings and specifications
• Conduct site inspections and provide construction support
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients and contractors
• Mentor junior engineers and take responsibility for their work
• Ensure designs are safe, serviceable, economical and high quality

We are looking for an experienced Structural engineer to join our engineering team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering professional structural engineering design, analysis and documentation for solar PV systems (SAT, Carports, Groundmounts, Rooftop) in full compliance with South African National Standards (SANS) or other standards if required.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out conceptual and detailed design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, aluminium members and cold-formed steel elements.
• Perform structural analysis and calculations in accordance with SANS 10160 (actions, including wind), SANS 10162 (steel design) and relevant concrete design codes.
• Use industry software (Prokon, AutoCAD, etc.) and verify critical results with first-principles hand calculations.
• Prepare design reports, calculation packages, drawings and specifications.
• Conduct site inspections, construction support and structural condition assessments.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients and contractors.
• Mentor junior engineers and graduates; review and take professional responsibility for their work.
• Ensure designs are safe, serviceable, economical and of high quality.

• BEng, BSc, BTech, BEngTech (Civil or Structural) from an accredited university.
• ECSA registration as Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng), or Candidate Engineer actively working toward registration.
• Minimum 5-8 years relevant structural design experience (scale according to level).
• Solid working knowledge of SANS structural codes, especially wind loading and structural design.
• Proficiency in structural analysis.
• Strong technical report-writing, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and own car.
