Structural Design Engineer
Working hours: 7am – 6pm (Mon. to Fri)
Contract duration: 3 Months

An international engineering company in Spartan is currently looking to employ a qualified and experienced Structural Steel Design Engineer.
Responsibilities:
- Review client's technical documentation and requirements.
- Maintain project technical files.
- Control subcontracted discipline engineering documents.
- Set up and execute assigned engineering activities such as detail design, verification, and studies related to discipline, aiming for sound engineering and design optimization in terms of costs, fabrication simplicity, and safety.
- Prepare design specifications.
- Develop studies and calculation notes for steel structures and structural steel buildings.
- Prepare Material Take-Off (MTO) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
- Prepare Scope of Work (S.O.W.) and technical specifications for steel structure subcontractors.
- Prepare technical documentation for steel structure material requisition and assist procurement in technical evaluations.
- Control manufacturer’s shop drawings and connection calculation notes and details.
- Supervise/Approve steel structure drawings issued by designers and draftsmen.
- Implement discipline follow-up activities.
- Implement field engineering activities.
- Participate in contract administration, chair/steer site meetings, act as Principal Agent, manage invoicing, and monthly reporting.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc/BEng/HND qualified civil & structural engineer.
- Ideally registered as a professional engineer.
- Ability to design in Steel and Reinforced Concrete (RC).
- Previous experience in design of formworks, falseworks, scaffolding, foundations, and ground supports, with some project management exposure.
- Good understanding of international loading codes such as ASCE, BS-EN, SANS, SBC, IBC.
- At least 5 years of structural design experience.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Prokon, and Revit.
- Experience with SolidWorks FEA analysis is advantageous.
- Ability to produce detailed calculations and drawings of structural elements.
- Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Capable of working in a team environment and using own initiative.
