Job Description
To manage the overall financial function of a store.
Key Performance Indicators
- Control, manage, and evaluate the full finance support function, including policies and procedures, for the store.
- Understand all systems that relate to and affect the stores, identifying potential opportunities to enhance current systems and procedures, and raise these with the Regional Finance Manager (Operations).
- Drive change management and educate staff on finance policies, procedures, processes, and templates.
- Ensure controls are adequate and suggest additional controls where necessary, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards, and the effective understanding and implementation of key controls throughout the store.
- Manage and mitigate business complexity to optimize trading.
- Monitor and track adherence to finance policies, procedures, processes, and templates.
- Ensure full reconciliation of all income statement and balance sheet accounts, maintaining accurate and complete accounting records.
- Produce detailed reports on all financial aspects of the business to enable progress tracking.
- Guide and support all aspects of store financial decision-making.
- Investigate ways to improve profitability.
- Manage Front End within budget and company requirements.
- Facilitate good corporate governance.
- Consolidate and interpret store budgets, forecasts, and actual performance.
- Support the end-to-end budget process, meeting all timelines and setting realistic budgets.
- Analyze store performance versus budget/forecast and revise forecasts accordingly.
- Compile monthly reports comparing actuals to budgets and forecasts.
Team Management
- Ensure all staff are trained and enabled to meet customer service standards.
- Communicate team goals and foster a customer-focused environment.
- Lead by example, motivating teams to meet standards and benchmarks.
- Take responsibility for team performance, managing recruitment, development, remuneration, and training.
Operational Responsibilities
- Manage costs and customer service.
- Monitor and review inventory management, stock control, and receiving.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain communication and build relationships with Head Office, Distribution Centre, and store teams.
- Understand operational impacts and provide solutions related to finance.
- Align store objectives with broader business strategies.
- Identify problem areas and advise management on improvements using finance processes.
Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications & Experience
- BCom Degree
- 3-5 years relevant operational financial management experience in retail or FMCG industries
