Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Stock Controller to manage and maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, consumables, and finished goods at our manufacturing facility in South Africa. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal stock levels, accurate record-keeping, and efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted production, minimising waste, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.

In this position, a strong emphasis is placed on attention to detail, accuracy, and strict adherence to procedure. The successful candidate must be confident in holding others accountable, enforcing inventory protocols firmly yet professionally. The right candidate will balance team rapport with assertiveness and a no-nonsense approach to compliance.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain accurate stock records and ensure alignment between physical stock and system data.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and full stock takes, investigating and resolving variances.
  • Monitor stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking; initiate procurement processes when necessary
  • Ensure all incoming and outgoing stock is properly documented and stored according to FIFO / FEFO and safety guidelines
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to align stock availability with production schedules.
  • Allocate materials accurately to BOMs and track consumption vs. planned usage
  • Optimise warehouse storage space and ensure proper labelling and stock rotation, especially for perishable items.
  • Support the implementation of inventory control procedures to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain reports on stock status, variances, and expiry risks for management review.

Stock Control Scope :

  • Oversee stock classification : raw materials, consumables, and finished goods.
  • Participate in supply chain planning and execution.
  • Manage stock procurement in line with production forecasts and lead times.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of materials against bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Health, Safety Compliance :

  • Ensure all processes comply with South African safety, health, and environmental regulations for the stock department.
  • Promote a culture of safety, including leading risk assessments and implementing safety measures to prevent accidents or hazards.
  • Collaborate with the Safety officers to maintain safety protocols in the stock department.

  • Matric certificate (required); additional qualifications in logistics, supply chain, or inventory management are advantageous.
  • Proven experience as a Stock and Inventory Controller, preferably in a factory or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in inventory software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong administrative, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with supply chain processes, stock rotation methods (e.g. FIFO / FEFO), and expiry date management.
