Job description

Starke Ayres is the foremost African specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower, and lawn seed varieties – both for commercial and home garden planting. The following position has become available for a National Credit Manager, based in Kempton Park. The purpose of this role is to oversee efficient collection of debt and to assume overall responsibility for the company’s credit granting process, including the consistent application of the credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers.

Responsibilities:
  1. Control the opening of all new accounts.
  2. Establish the credit rating / worthiness of new account applications.
  3. Impose limitations on credit facilities where required.
  4. Motivate granting of extended credit facilities to the Financial Director.
  5. Monitor the status of all accounts on an ongoing basis.
  6. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Credit Control Operations
  • Monitor reconciliations, including COD accounts, regularly.
  • Implement supply restrictions where accounts are overdue.
  • Visit key/problem accounts to address issues and resolve debts.
  • Address outstanding accounts with customers and solicit assistance from regions in collecting debts.
  • Visit clients with Reps and managers.
Collections & Legal
  • Handle outstanding accounts for collection and manage legal matters and correspondence.
  • Manage legal issues related to liquidations and bad debts.
  • Make efforts to prevent accounts from becoming bad debts.
  • Determine bad debt provisions and submit write-off lists to the Financial Director.
Cash Flow & Reporting
  • Produce monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • Set monthly debt collection target goals.
  • Provide weekly reports on target achievement and COD status.
  • Report monthly on results and aging both locally and internationally.
  • Monitor daily collections and bank allocations.
  • Review bank statements regularly.
  • Manage forex funds and authorization requests.
  • Appoint and evaluate credit controllers and debtors staff.
  • Identify training needs and implement development programs.
  • Motivate staff to maintain high morale and productivity.
