Role Description

We are seeking a Stack Emission Technician for a full-time, on-site role based in eThekwini. The Stack Emission Technician will be responsible for conducting emissions monitoring, collecting and analyzing samples, calibrating monitoring equipment, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This role also involves preparing detailed reports and liaising with clients to provide expert advice on emissions management and control.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform stack emissions testing, including the operation of air sampling equipment.
2. Accurately record field measurements, collect air samples, and document test conditions in accordance with regulatory protocols.
3. Ensure the proper functioning of testing equipment; troubleshoot issues and perform routine maintenance.
4. Adhere to South African environmental regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
5. Compile test results, prepare technical reports, and ensure data accuracy for reporting purposes.
6. Maintain accurate data records in both digital and physical formats, ensuring completeness, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
7. Collaborate closely with team members to ensure efficient testing procedures and regulatory compliance.
8. Travel to various sites across sub-Saharan Africa to conduct on-site testing.
9. Provide support to the Quality Control department by collecting samples, conducting materials tests using established procedures, and documenting results to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
10. Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Qualifications

1. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in emissions monitoring and sample analysis.
2. Proficiency in calibrating and maintaining monitoring equipment.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
5. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
6. Comfortable working at heights.
7. Experience in occupational hygiene or environmental monitoring is advantageous.
8. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
9. Valid driver’s licence and passport, with the willingness to travel across sub-Saharan Africa as needed.
10. Knowledge of South African environmental regulations and EPA methodologies.

2. Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
3. Availability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
4. Punctuality and readiness to begin work at the designated start time on-site.
5. Strict adherence to all safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
6. Willingness to work in a team and support colleagues and supervisors with additional duties as required.
7. Consistent, timely, and regular attendance is expected of all Apex Environmental employees.
8. This position requires working at heights using manlifts or scaffolding, with strict compliance to all safety regulations and procedures.
