Job summary

Imizizi in Gauteng seeks a Java backend developer to join an Agile team delivering robust, scalable services. You will design and maintain backend systems, build RESTful APIs, and contribute to frontend work when needed.

You will work with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, JMS, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to ensure continuous delivery and high availability across cloud-native applications. The role emphasizes code quality, testing, and documentation for reliable operations.

Qualifications

• Relevant IT degree or equivalent technical qualification.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in backend development with Java (Advanced level).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with feature team to conduct system analysis, design, development and testing in an Agile/DevOps model.
• Maintain, develop, deploy and operate backend cross-platform applications based on Java frameworks.
• Contribute to frontend codebase when needed, delivering full-stack solutions with Angular and Java.
• Design and implement robust RESTful APIs meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
• Integrate with messaging systems (JMS, Kafka) to support event-driven workflows.
• Build, run and maintain containerised applications using Docker and deploy to Kubernetes.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to automate builds, tests and deployments.
• Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests for quality and reliability.
• Prepare and document SOPs, runbooks and system documentation.
• Support operational excellence by resolving escalated support issues as Tier-3 DevOps responsibility.
• Plan and execute upgrades of applications and platform components with minimal disruption.
• Design and implement cloud-native solutions and troubleshoot production issues for high availability.
