Job description

A Sr. project geologist is urgently required to identify viable base metal deposits, manage green field, brown field exploration projects while reporting to the Exploration Manager/Unit Head. He/she will assist the exploration manager to develop exploration programs and putting systems in place to optimise the exploration process.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Identifying new viable opportunities leading to acquisition in Nigeria.
  • Conducting desk-top and due-diligence studies.
  • Undertaking regional and deposit scale geological mapping, geochemical sampling to assess mineral potential.
  • Planning and implementation of resource definition activities, including RC & Diamond drilling, QAQC protocols and conducting pre-feasibility, feasibility study.
  • Providing guidance and input in resource and reserve development drilling programs - inclusive of contractor management, rig security, rig performance, target attainment, safe work practices and environmental impact.
  • Developing and implementing exploration protocols consistent with industry norms.
  • Maintaining standards of logging, data capture and sectional interpretations.
  • Undertaking structural, lithological, geotechnical and assay correlations to enhance understanding of mineralization.
  • Ensuring appropriate sampling and assay quality control and assurance protocols are in place, adhered to and monitored.
  • Management and collation of geological data.
  • Providing geological interpretations and 3D model for resource modelling.
  • Preparing exploration budgets.
  • Completing weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring all exploration projects are compliant with government policies and procedures.
  • Ability to guide management to take informed decision for a particular deposit.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology (MSc preferably)

Key skills and attributes

  • Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS/MapInfo) and 3D Mining Software Packages (Surpac/Data mine/Micromine etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of ore deposit models and appropriate exploration techniques.
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, assertiveness and empathy.
