Job summary

iStaff (Pty) Ltd is seeking a data-focused SQL professional to join our team in South Africa. You will work with senior SQL developers and DBAs to design, optimize, and maintain relational databases, while delivering robust reports and BI models.

The role requires a strong grasp of SQL, data governance, and collaboration with software teams to ensure data accuracy and performance. Experience with SSRS and Power BI is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / IT / Maths or related field (or currently pursuing).
• Understanding of database concepts and SQL.
• 1-5 years' experience in a similar role.
• Familiarity with basic database management tools and SQL client applications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
• Certifications or coursework related to database management and SQL are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior SQL developers and database admins to understand requirements and assist with design and maintenance.
• Write, test, and optimize SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and manage data in relational databases.
• Assist in designing schemas, tables, and indexes to support applications and business needs.
• Collaborate with software developers to integrate databases with applications and ensure data consistency.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks.
• Maintain data quality by implementing data validation and cleansing processes.
• Perform backups, restores, and data migrations as routine maintenance.
• Learn and apply best practices for database security and data protection compliance.
• Document database processes, schemas, and configurations.
• Stay updated on SQL and database management trends and tools.
• Build and support SSRS reports.
• Build and support Power BI models.
