Job summary

Boardroom Appointments seeks a SQL Database and Windows Specialist for a 5-month contract in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will manage Active Directory, SQL Server and Windows Server environments, optimize performance, implement backups, and ensure security and compliance across the data stack.

You should have a Bachelors degree in computer science or related field, 3–5 years of SQL DBA and Windows experience, and strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with ICT teams.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's degree in CS or related field and 3–5 years SQL DBA/Windows Server experience.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and database management, AD and group policies.
• Experience with backup, recovery, security, and high availability strategies.

Responsibilities

• Active Directory: manage domain controllers and group policies.
• Server and Database Management: install/configure/maintain Windows Server and databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL).
• Monitor and optimise database performance and resource utilisation.
• Implement backup and recovery strategies for data integrity.
• Ensure database security, user access, encryption, and access controls.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and data integrity issues.
• Capacity planning for growth and hardware/storage needs.
• Set up high availability solutions (clustering, replication, mirroring).
• Collaborate with developers on database design and schema optimization.
• Apply patches and security fixes; manage patching cycles.
• Prepare reports and dashboards per business needs.
