The Role
We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) who will also play a key role in SQL Support and Development. This is a hands-on position that involves managing and optimising SQL Server databases while also diving into data, resolving support issues, and performing light to moderate SQL development work.

Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
- Perform core DBA tasks, including compression, partitioning, indexing, fault finding, and optimization.
- Dive into data to troubleshoot and resolve SQL support issues, including data inconsistencies and performance bottlenecks.
- Develop, modify, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures (SPs), functions, tables, and schemas as needed.
- Conduct regular monitoring, proactive maintenance, and performance tuning of SQL Server databases.
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity.
- Collaborate with business analysts and team members to understand data needs and support data-driven processes.
- Uphold strong database security protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
- Identify opportunities for database and query optimization to improve system efficiency.
- Stay current on SQL Server technologies and best practices to enhance database performance and support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration. Applications not meeting this requirement will not be considered.
- Solid experience in database compression, partitioning, indexing, fault finding, and performance tuning.
- Practical ability to create and modify stored procedures, tables, schemas, and SQL queries.
- Deep SQL development expertise is not required, but you must be comfortable with regular development tasks as part of the role.
- Proven track record in supporting data-related issues, including resolving discrepancies and performance challenges.
- Strong understanding of database security, backup, and disaster recovery best practices.
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
This is an office-based role in Durbanville, Cape Town, South Africa. Remote applications will not be considered.
Candidates must reside within commuting distance.
