Job description

We are seeking an experienced Spray Painter to join our team in Klerksdorp .

This role is critical to ensuring high-quality surface coating applications on bulk fuel tanks, steel piping , and other industrial equipment. The ideal candidate has experience working in petrochemical environments , with a deep understanding of epoxy, zinc, and polyurethane-based paint systems .

You will work alongside a skilled team, following strict safety standards and delivering exceptional coating finishes on-site at fuel depots, refineries, and other high-risk industrial sites.

Key Responsibilities :

Surface Preparation & Coating

  • Apply paint coatings to surfaces using airless or conventional spray equipment
  • Use and maintain correct application techniques for epoxy, zinc-rich, and polyurethane coatings
  • Follow work orders, specifications, and quality control procedures
  • Conduct surface preparation such as cleaning, sanding, and masking prior to painting
  • Ensure all coatings are applied according to required thickness and finish standards

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site
  • Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times
  • Identify and report any unsafe working conditions or equipment faults
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

Quality Control

  • Conduct visual inspections to ensure smooth finishes and proper coating thickness
  • Identify and correct any paint defects (e.g., overspray, runs, thin spots)
  • Assist with touch-ups, repaints, or corrections when required

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work cooperatively with team members and supervisors
  • Communicate clearly regarding timelines, issues, or material shortages
  • Support site team in meeting deadlines and quality standards

Requirements

Minimum Requirements :

  • 5–10 years' experience in spray painting within the petrochemical or heavy industrial sector
  • Experience working on bulk fuel tanks, steel piping, and similar structures
  • Skilled in using epoxy, zinc, and polyurethane paint systems
  • Familiarity with painting in refineries, fuel depots, or high-risk industrial environments
  • Ability to read and interpret job specifications and technical drawings
  • Strong knowledge of coating equipment, cleaning procedures, and safety protocols
  • Physically fit and able to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Train the Painter certification or similar industry-recognised qualification
  • Knowledge of paint mixing ratios, surface preparation standards (e.g., SA 2.5), and DFT (dry film thickness) measurements
  • Basic understanding of Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and coating inspection processes
  • Valid driver’s license
