Waterberg Academy is a respected independent school nestled in the heart of the Waterberg, where academic excellence, character development, and a love for nature go hand in hand. We believe that sport plays a critical role in the holistic development of young people, and we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Sports Coordinator to lead and grow our sporting programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who thrives on coaching, mentorship, and creating opportunities for learners to develop resilience, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the school’s full sports programme across all phases, ensuring alignment with the school’s values and vision.
  • Coach various sports codes, including at least one major team sport (e.g., archery, rugby, netball, hockey, athletics, or cricket).
  • Organise fixtures, tours, festivals, and inter-school events.
  • Drive participation and excellence by developing inclusive opportunities for all learners to engage in sport, from social to competitive levels.
  • Manage the maintenance, use, and procurement of sporting equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote a culture of health, fitness, and school spirit.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to learners through sport, instilling discipline, respect, and teamwork.
  • Coordinate external coaches and liaise with local clubs and regional sports bodies.
  • Take responsibility for sports administration, including schedules, communication, and transport logistics.
  • Support the school’s vision of holistic development by contributing to the co-curricular life of the school.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  • A relevant teaching qualification or sports management degree is preferred.
  • Experience in sports coaching and/or school sports coordination.
  • The ability to coach at least one major team sport at a high level.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • A passion for working with young people and nurturing talent.
  • A valid driver’s licence (PDP advantageous).
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends.
  • SACE registration (if the candidate will also be teaching) is advantageous.

Join Waterberg Academy and help shape young lives through sport in a school that values grit, growth, and a connection to nature. We offer a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful, supportive environment where every learner is known and valued.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
