Location Profile

Truganina South Primary School is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) development in the Wyndham network area. The school caters for all year levels from P-6. The school is located on Parkvista Drive and Federation Boulevard Truganina South and the majority of the students are drawn from the local area.

The state of the art facility provides critical infrastructure that brings together the best in contemporary educational design and promotes active student-centred learning through the creation of flexible, functional spaces.

The school is a leading example of ecological sustainability, with a frog bog and a range of other utility conservation measures.

The school structure is organised around the stages of schooling. Grades are arranged in straight Preps, 5's and 6's and multi-age grades for Years 1-4.

All teachers and students work in Learning Communities to create flexible teaching options in classrooms and to better cater for the individual needs of all students. Selection Criteria

• SC1 Demonstrated interest in working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary professional team of teachers, education support staff, therapists and other professionals to improve outcomes for students.
• SC2 Ability to use clinical reasoning and design therapy interventions within the educational setting, including programs within the classroom.
• SC3 Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, including teachers, parents and students.
• SC4 Commitment to engage in ongoing professional learning, both within the school and externally.
• SC5 Demonstrated ability to work independently, utilise effective time management strategies, establish priorities and meet deadlines.

Role

As our senior Speech Therapist, this role includes the following:

• Conduct formal assessment of students in areas such as, communication, alternative and augmentative communication, speech, language and social/behavioural needs.
• Provide the delivery of programs in collaboration with teachers, parents/carers according to students' individual needs.
• Document, record and accurately report on student progress and make recommendations for future programming.
• Plan and guide ES staff members in the delivery of our language support program
• Provide professional learning for staff
• Attend meetings eg staff, department, and program support group.

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee’s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The initial responsibilities of this position will be:

• Effective assessment monitoring and reporting of student's individual needs.
• Implement therapeutic programs through individual, small group or whole class settings.
• Provide support to student's families or carers through direct and indirect means (E.g meetings and developing/providing resources)
• Effective organisation management and promotion of team work.
• Effective communication skills. Evidence of professionally sensitive communication with parents/carers and students.
