Job Description :

Our client is seeking a Ventilation Modelling Specialist to provide expert support across all operations, ensuring that ventilation is a key enabler of business performance in terms of safety, efficiency, standards, and cost. This role is responsible for designing, monitoring, implementing, and managing ventilation strategies to maintain optimal air quality, control contaminants, ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and support emergency response planning. The specialist will play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and safety of underground mining personnel.

Responsibilities :

  • Ensure the consistent application of Safety & Health principles across all interactions, taking personal responsibility for safety to achieve zero harm and eliminate fatalities.
  • Develop and implement optimized ventilation strategies for underground mines, studies, and projects, supported by comprehensive modeling and analysis.
  • Assess, implement, and review short- and long-term ventilation requirements to maintain a safe, compliant working environment. Provide primary and secondary ventilation system solutions, cost estimates, and high-level scheduling to support project execution and operations.
  • Design, document, and implement efficient ventilation systems tailored to underground mining challenges, considering geological conditions, mining layouts, and hazards such as gas emissions and dust. Enhance technical and operational capabilities by aligning site strategies with the client's operating model.
  • Continuously review and improve ventilation system designs and performance, optimizing energy consumption through advancements like Ventilation-on-Demand, fan performance optimization, improved ducting technologies, and reduced reentry intervals.
  • Champion a “Safety by Design” approach in ventilation design and management, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and safety standards related to mine ventilation, gas control, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and air quality management. Provide expert guidance on all related aspects.
  • Maintain strong connections with industry groups, regulators, educators, and suppliers to stay informed of global best practices and emerging technologies, fostering a respected industry presence.
  • Conduct internal and external audits to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze ventilation system data, air quality measurements, and other relevant information to generate actionable insights that enhance ventilation infrastructure and protect underground workers.

Requirements : Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ventilation or Occupational Hygiene.
  • Advanced Mines Environmental Control certificate.
  • Honors, Masters, Doctoral degree, or equivalent (advantageous).
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
  • Vuma3D Essential and Advanced Training certificates.
  • Held an appointment under Section 12.1 of the MHSA.
  • Knowledge of mine ventilation principles, underground mining systems, mining methods, gas management, dust control, and regulatory requirements specific to the mining industry.
