Key Deliverables / Primary Functions
- Install, maintain, update, and administer Backup software.
- Perform backup changes using Change Management process and ensure all backups are properly run and completed within the agreed backup windows.
- Diagnose Backup platform issues and troubleshoot the environment for optimal performance.
- Administer the Backup Systems.
- Analyze backup infrastructure and recommend improvements to meet business needs and future capacity.
- Manage resolution of complex problems, interfacing with support resources within the organization and from the supplier community, providing root cause analysis and remediation to mitigate risk.
- Evaluate and apply software upgrades and support packs as needed to resolve production issues and ensure compliance and system integrity.
- Review and audit existing backup schedules, policies, and operational considerations; recommend and establish best practices to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Create and update documentation, including backup & restore reports (SLA, Job status, Capacity, etc.).
- Document operational best practices, processes, and procedures related to the backup environment, and recommend procedural improvements for operational optimization and better service levels.
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises to ensure high reliability and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
- NQF Level 6: 3-year Degree/Diploma/National Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science
- NQF Level 4: Grade 12 National Diploma
Additional Education - Preferred / Advantage
- NQF Level 6: 3-year Degree/Diploma/National Diploma in Engineering
Experience
- 5 years’ system engineering experience.
- Alternatively, 7 years’ system engineering experience if holding a Grade 12 qualification.
Certifications
- NetBackup 8.2 certification.
- Veeam with replication certification.
- Veritas appliance certification (Flex and Access).
- VMware and vSphere certifications.
- Microsoft Windows and Linux certifications.
- ITIL Foundation.
