Responsibilities of the Specialist: Safety and Security Services
  1. Manage security liaison, develop security policies, and oversee their implementation.
  2. Collaborate with management to develop strategies to mitigate safety and security risks.
  3. Maintain continuity of safety and security operations, safeguarding CETA assets and personnel.
  4. Conduct security appraisals and ensure ongoing safety within CETA premises.
  5. Develop security specifications and manage service providers.
  6. Develop and implement security policies, protocols, and ensure compliance with the OHS Act.
  7. Design and implement systems to prevent, detect, and report cybersecurity threats.
Safety and Security Functional Management
  1. Monitor access to classified areas and ensure only authorized personnel are granted entry.
  2. Enforce security policies and conduct compliance audits.
  3. Respond to security incidents, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.
  4. Implement physical security measures like CCTV, alarms, and access controls.
  5. Develop emergency response, evacuation, and crisis management plans.
  6. Participate in meetings, present findings, and update stakeholders on progress.
  7. Manage security personnel, conduct audits, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
Vetting and Investigations
  1. Develop policies and standards for vetting and investigations.
  2. Coordinate security vetting practices with SSA and manage related administrative systems.
  3. Monitor and report on vetting files and personnel suitability.
  4. Screen companies and service providers as part of procurement.
Manage Resources and Projects
  1. Participate in safety and security projects and research.
  2. Manage security files, reports, and ensure quality control.
  3. Identify skills development needs and train security personnel.
  4. Advise on legislation, policies, and procedures.
  5. Monitor equipment utilization and ensure all security tools are operational.
Security Planning and Incident Response
  1. Develop and maintain security plans based on threat analysis.
  2. Conduct continuous security threat analysis.
  3. Respond to incidents, limiting exposure and liabilities.
Administrative Management
  1. Manage physical security resources, including leave, overtime, and performance assessments.
  2. Handle discipline, disputes, and strike management procedures.
  3. Conduct theft investigations and coordinate security activities for VIPs and dignitaries.
Requirements

Skills, Experience, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human/Social Sciences, Forensic Investigation, Law, Security Management, or equivalent (NQF level 7).
  • Security Code/Grade A certification (e.g., from PSIRA).
  • Valid Security Certificate.
  • Training in security vetting from SSA, Defence Intelligence, or SAPS.
  • Nyukela Certificate from NSoG is advantageous.
  • Practical security environment management experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in security, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
