BMW Group SA is seeking a highly experienced specialist in robot engineering for automated paint systems in Rosslyn, South Africa. You will lead cross-disciplinary collaboration, troubleshoot complex robotic paint processes, and drive continuous improvement to meet strict production targets.

The role demands extensive automotive experience, Siemens S7/TIA expertise, and deep knowledge of paint process and defect analysis, with a strong focus on safety and quality standards across painting

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years automotive industry experience.
• Minimum 5 years Paint Robotic Experience.
• SIEMENS S7 and TIA Experience Required.
• Paint Process and Defect Analysis experience – Minimum 8 Years.
• DURR Paint Robotic Electrical and Mechanical Experience – Minimum 8 Years.
• Sound Technical Knowledge in Spray booth Systems.
• Minimum 5 years technology-specific experience would be an advantage.

Responsabilités

• Provide expert technical mentorship to automation technicians and operators.
• Architect, coordinate, and execute production schedules that synchronize robotic operations with manufacturing workflows.
• Diagnose, analyse, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software faults in robotic paint systems.
• Partner with engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance to implement system enhancements and recalibrate parameters.
• Enforce compliance with safety, environmental regulations and global quality standards in painting robotics.
• Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives for robotic automation.
• Strategically manage resources, tooling configurations, and workforce competencies for robotic systems.

Job Description

The Paint Robotics Specialist – Automation is a skilled technical responsible for the strategic oversight and advanced management of automated paint application systems within an automotive manufacturing environment. The specialist will spearhead complex troubleshooting, lead cross-disciplinary collaboration, and drive innovation to uphold stringent production standards and achieve ambitious throughput targets.

• Architect, coordinate, and execute intricate production schedules that synchronize robotic operations with broader manufacturing workflows to maximize throughput and minimize cycle times.
• Diagnose, analyse, and resolve sophisticated mechanical, electrical, and software faults within robotic paint systems to ensure optimal uptime and process reliability.
• Partner closely with engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance functions to implement system enhancements, recalibrate robotic parameters, and integrate emerging automation technologies.
• Enforce rigorous compliance with occupational safety, environmental regulations, and global quality standards specific to painting robotics and automated finishing processes.
• Lead the deployment of lean manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks tailored to the complexities of robotic automation.
• Strategically manage resource allocation encompassing advanced robotic equipment, tooling configurations, and specialized workforce competencies to optimize operational capacity.

What should you bring along?

• Engineering Degree (4 years) BTech, BEng or BSc /Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics).
• Minimum 8 years’ automotive industry experience.
• Minimum 5 years Paint Robotic Experience.
• SIEMENS S7 and TIA Experience Required.
• Paint Process and Defect Analysis experience Required – Minimum 8 Years.
• DURR Paint Robotic Electrical and Mechanical Experience required - Minimum 8 Years.
• Sound Technical Knowledge in Spray booth Systems - Paint Process and Surrounding equipment.
• Minimum 5 years’ technology-specific experience would be an advantage.
