Specialist R&D Design

We are currently on a search for an experienced Specialist R & D Design to join the largest manufacturer and distributor of major appliances in Southern Africa, to be based in Durban, Jacobs. The Specialist R&D Design plays the role of creating a product design that fulfills the organization's strategic goals while integrating the needs of marketing, purchasing, quality, and the manufacturing department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage and implement platform projects from conceptual phase to implementation.
2. Design products/components and/or make improvements/changes to existing products/components in line with market requirements and trends.
3. Manage and implement cost reduction/quality improvement projects.
4. Ensure products comply with standard requirements.
5. Conduct laboratory experiments, test prototypes, and collect data to evaluate product performance.
6. Keep abreast of the latest scientific advancements and industry regulations.
7. Work with cross-functional teams like marketing, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure smooth product development and commercialization.
8. Study market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to identify potential areas for innovation.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field.
2. Experience in 2D & 3D drawing and modelling.
3. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a production or R&D based environment.
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
5. Product Development/Project Management experience would be advantageous.
6. Good understanding of Sheet Metal Design Principles, Plastic & Electrical components would also be advantageous.
