Job description

A leading pharmaceutical company has a vacancy for a Specialist Medical Representative - Rare diseases, to educate the key specialists on the scientific / clinical evidence of the products to ensure optimal patient outcome.

Territory : Johannesburg South and East

Main Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Effectively implement sales strategy and tactics, executional plan in accordance with company policies.
  • Engage HCPs (Oncologists, Neurologists, and Rehabilitation Units) in a dialogue to effectively promote knowledge about the products with a value proposition, benefits of approved medication, product efficacy/safety profile, and treatment protocols to support on-label prescribing for appropriate patients using science-driven balanced messages and the appropriate mix of tools and channels both face-to-face and digital.
  • Demonstrate strong in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge in relevant disease states and product mechanisms of action.
  • Effectively implement marketing strategy, tactics, and executional plan in accordance with company policies.
  • Conduct analysis of market/competitors to identify territory business opportunities.
  • Develop territory Business Plan based on executional plan and allocate resources (e.g., call activities, budget) for optimal sales impact.
  • Monitor territory business plan to ensure resources are directed to customers of greatest potential.
  • Participate in sales activities programs to increase product awareness in the market.
  • Update territory customer segmentation classification, database, and call records continuously.
  • Explore and expand new customer base in line with sales force effectiveness guidelines.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to tailor strategies according to the unique needs of the HCP, pulling together insights from various stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactively address objections and concerns about treatment efficacy, cost, or patient outcomes with solid evidence-backed outcomes.
  • Forward all received Product Quality Complaints, Adverse Events, and Medical Enquiries to the relevant person in Quality Assurance/Pharmacovigilance/Medical Affairs.
  • Ensure that the relevant training has been completed according to the training plan.

Qualifying Requirements :

  • Related bachelor’s degree in any field, preferably science-related.
  • Experience in calling on Specialists (Oncologist and Neurologists preferable).
  • 5 years minimum experience.
  • Deep Clinical Knowledge.
  • High level of drive and determination.
  • Self-motivated with good integrity.
  • Good interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy – MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent selling skills.
  • Established and existing relationships in the territory, and with key stakeholders.
  • Embodies Company Values in all internal and external interactions.
