Job summary

Freerecruit is assisting a prestigious luxury safari lodge near Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal in hiring a Sous Chef to join the culinary team and lead on food preparation and service.

The role requires 3+ years of culinary experience in luxury hospitality or safari environments, strong organisational and communication skills, and a passion for high-quality cuisine. Live-in, permanent position with market-related salary.

Qualifications

• Valid, unendorsed South African driver's license essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain exceptional kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
• Train and mentor chefs while implementing kitchen standards.
• Oversee food orders, stock control, storerooms and refrigeration.
• Maintain strict food costs and minimise wastage.
• Ensure all food served to guests meets exceptional quality standards.
• Create memorable bush banqueting, picnics, drink stops and game-drive snacks.
• Manage special dietary requirements and ensure guest needs are communicated to the kitchen team.
• Promote teamwork, discipline, creativity and professional standards.
• Work closely with Lodge Management, HODs, chefs, butlers and suppliers.
• Assist with kitchen operations across the property when required.
• Ensure excellent communication regarding menus, dishes and ingredients.
