Job description

About Xceptor

Data is at the heart of everything we do: Xceptor has been designed around data manipulation in its broadest sense. We source data from wherever it flows. We curate, normalise, validate, repair, and enrich that data so it reaches its destination in a reliable and consistent format. Data coming out of Xceptor is data our clients can trust.

We are recognised as an expert in the Financial Services vertical, which strongly aligns with Business Users in Middle and Back‑Office teams. We enable these users to solve their data challenges by themselves, rather than through a technology‑led project.

Our mission

We empower business users within financial institutions to build automated processes that deliver trusted data.

Our values

sit at the heart of our business, driving who we are and how we work. At Xceptor, we are:

  • Client Centric; we prioritise our Clients’ experience and needs.
  • One Team; we actively support one another to achieve our goals.
  • Impactful; we focus, we innovate, we make every minute matter.
Your Role

Business Area and Team

The Tax Solutions Tribe builds high‑value, repeatable industry standardised tax solutions on the Xceptor platform, combining domain depth with engineering discipline to deliver fast customer outcomes. We operate with an AI‑first PDLC: agents draft configuration, tests, documentation, and runbooks; humans set intent and constraints, verify, and approve to a production bar.

The Role & Why this Exists

As a Solutions Engineer, you are a key contributor who designs, configures, and delivers production‑grade solutions on the Xceptor platform, with the aim of driving down time‑to‑value for our customers. You own meaningful end‑to‑end slices of work, from specification through implementation and deployment, delivering high‑quality outcomes while supporting other engineers and playing a vital role in the evolution of our repeatable solutions portfolio.

This role exists to help the tribe ship high‑quality solutions quickly and consistently, while driving forward the adoption of AI tooling across the Solutions Tribe and expanding our AI‑enabled delivery capabilities.

What You'll Be Doing

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of features and technical slices end-to-end, including production support.
  • Breaks work into small increments, keeps PRs focused, and ship frequently with a bias to outcomes.
  • Turn ambiguity into clarity by asking the right questions and aligning quickly on scope, constraints, and acceptance.
  • Deliver production‑grade functionality by default (security, performance, observability, auditability, maintainability).
AI-First Delivery System (How we build)
  • Uses AI routinely to accelerate delivery (analysis, testing, documentation)
  • Validates AI-generated output, never accepting them blindly.
  • Applies verification discipline appropriate to scope: unit tests, automated tests where relevant, edge cases, and basic threat/abuse considerations.
  • Contribute to templates, data patterns, and workflows.
Technical Delivery
  • Design and configure robust, reusable solutions on the Xceptor platform.
  • Work effectively with SQL: write safe queries, with appropriate schema design, indexing, and performance trade‑offs.
  • Work confidently with structured and semi structured data (XML, JSON, CSV, Excel).
  • Produce automated tests aligned to the solution’s design (unit/configuration tests where applicable) and treat test quality as a first‑class part of delivery.
  • Keep documentation current, accurate, and useful with AI drafting, ensuring accuracy and usefulness.
Quality, Security & Production Readiness (Speed with Control)
  • Ensure that the tribe’s quality expectations are consistently met.
  • Build automated test cases for new functionality.
  • Fix issues quickly when identified.
  • Understand and follow safe release practices in a regulated environment.
Collaboration & Culture
  • Work effectively across departments to deliver outcomes, not just output.
  • Share knowledge, support peers, and contribute to a positive, high‑performing culture.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and adopt improved practices, helping others do the same.
  • Step up to unblock progress, improve reliability, and strengthen the tribe’s delivery system when needed.
Who we're looking for

Key Competencies

Technical
  • Strong logical and analytical problem‑solving skills, with the ability to break down complex challenges and make sound engineering judgements.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with XML and SQL.
  • Solid Excel skills are advantageous.
  • Highly comfortable working with CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing practices, and able to raise the bar for quality and reliability across the team.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to own solutions end‑to‑end, from specification through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production readiness.
AI-First Engineering (Must Have)
  • Uses AI as a routine delivery partner to accelerate implementation and analysis, validating AI‑generated outputs through tests and review.
  • Effective in an AI‑first team: delegates to agents, iterates quickly, and maintains a high verification bar.
  • Contributes to team‑level leverage by improving templates, patterns, gates, and delivery playbooks.
Non Technical
  • Collaborative, reliable, and accountable; takes ownership and follows through.
  • Pragmatic and delivery‑focused; balances pace with quality and control.
  • Customer‑centric mindset for regulated mission‑critical environments.
  • Open, curious, and motivated to learn and improve.
  • Previous tax experience is not required but would be advantageous.
Required Education & Experience
  • Strong academic background, including a degree in a STEM subject discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Experience delivering data‑driven solutions (typically 5+ years) in Solutions Engineering, Business Analysis, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience implementing solutions that include data ingestion, transformation, validation, enrichment, or workflow logic.
  • Significant exposure to software development concepts (e.g., C#/.NET or a similar language).
  • Experience working with XML, SQL, and structured/semi‑structured data.
  • Evidence of strong engineering fundamentals and ability to learn quickly in a fast‑moving environment.
How Success Will be Measured

This role is measured on outcomes and how they’re achieved: faster delivery, production‑grade quality, and controlled change.

  • Flow: DORA (lead time, deploy frequency, change failure rate, MTTR)
  • Quality: Quality Health Indicator (defect escape, time to resolve, severity trend, etc)
  • DX: Developer Experience Score (shipping friction, golden path usability)
  • AI leverage: throughput up without rework/escapes; high adoption of AI workflow & golden paths
  • Assurance: automated gates coverage (tests/security/observability/performance) and review effectiveness (low rollback/rework)
  • Production & controls: SLO attainment, incident/severity trend, and audit‑ready traceability of changes/approvals
  • Behaviours: AI‑first by default (uses agents effectively, follows guardrails, verifies outputs); strong ownership; learns fast; control‑aware decisions.
Associated Values and Behaviours
  • Personable and approachable, with an enthusiastic, motivational nature and a passion for excellence.
  • Operates with integrity and accountability; sets a high bar while creating an environment where others can succeed.
  • Culturally aware and inclusive; collaborates respectfully across disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Drives continuous learning, personally and across the tribe, embracing modern practices including AI‑enabled delivery.
