The Solar Technician is responsible for ensuring the performance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar energy systems to maximize efficiency, availability, and safety while ensuring they operate according to design. This role involves performing routine maintenance, generating performance reports, diagnosing and resolving issues, and optimizing system performance for large scale renewable installations including solar PV, BESS, Diesel Generators and LV/MV networks.
The Solar Technician will be based in Cape Town and report to the O&M Department Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties
System Monitoring & Performance Optimization: Monitor and analyze the performance of solar energy systems using SCADA and monitoring software. Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify system under-performance issues.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance. Diagnose and repair plant equipment failures. Replace defective components.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and system performance reports. Document issues, repairs, and maintenance activities for future reference. Communicate system status updates to management.
Support & Technical Assistance: Provide technical support and troubleshooting guidance to clients and site operators. Address client concerns and ensure satisfaction with system performance. Train clients on system operations and maintenance best practices.
Emergency Response & Field Operations: Respond to emergency breakdowns, outages, and technical issues. Conduct on-site assessments and implement immediate corrective actions.
