Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for a Solar Plant Assistant in Northern Cape, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our Solar Plant Assistant you will contribute to establishing, implementing, and maintaining the HSSE management systemfor the entire value chain. Support theorganisationinensuring compliance to the internal HSSE framework and local regulations and best practices.Build and drive a positive company HSSE culture with the goal of zero harm
Main responsibilities
- Initiate, organize, and conduct plant safety induction for employees, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures on HSSE.
- Inspect personnel, work sites, buildings, vehicles, tools and equipment, work procedures and office environment on a regular basis to identify issues or non-conformity and enforce actions where unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy are detected. Frequency of inspections to be conducted as per Scatec policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit safety inspection reports and make recommendations to improve safety infraction identified.
- Record and investigate incidents (including near misses) to determine the cause and to propose improvements to processes on HSSE matters.
- Coordinate safety training (statutory) for all employees.
- Conduct defensive driving assessment to determine competency to operate company vehicle.
- Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.
- Conduct safety training, policy and procedure rollout, legal requirements and or other requirements as may be deemed suitable.
- Ensure full and accurate health and safety training records are documented.
- Coordinate and conduct periodic fire-drills.
- Monitor and inspect fire prevention & protection systems for conformity to standards e.g., fire extinguishers, alarm & detection.
- Ensure implementation of the site HSSE programme, audits, and checks.
- Participate in internal and external HSSE audits.
- Review contractor HSSE file and submit for approval by Plant Manager.
- Maintain External Sharing site for contractor documentation.
- Inspect work sites and the work of contractor personnel on a regular basis to identify issues or non-conformity and enforce necessary actions where unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy are detected.
- Ensure the contractor meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, security and environmental at work, including statutory training and reporting (e.g., incident report, hours worked on site etc.).
- Ensure that safety inspections, risk assessments, working procedures are managed, and contractors and employees are aware of their responsibilities in relation to health and safety issues.
- Identifying, analysing, troubleshooting, and assisting with repairs of equipment and electrical faults.
- Interpreting built drawings.
- Replacing of modules and connecting of MC4 connectors
Qualifications and competencies
- University Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years within HSSE, preferably in an EPC and/or O&M company
- Valid drivers’ license
- Language: fluent both written and spoken in English
- Advise Plant Manager on safety training requirements.
- Support the Plant Manager in raising awareness on health and safety issues among consultants, contractors and other stakeholders and working closely
- Advise contractors, consultants and other stakeholders on various safety, health, security, and environmental related matters related to project implementation
- Assist the Technician in all related work or complete certain tasks of which they are capable of with the supervision of the Technician
- Learn from the Solar Technician and completing all assigned duties
- Supervision of vegetation control teams, module washing teams and general service teams
