Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions is seeking a skilled Solar Installation Technician in the Western Cape to install and commission photovoltaic systems from start to finish, including equipment installation and setting up monitoring.

You will work on residential, light commercial, and industrial PV projects, requiring familiarity with inverters, BMS data interpretation, and strict safety and quality controls on site.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Certificate (NQF 4) is required.
• National Diploma in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering (NQF 6) is required.
• QCTO Red Seal Electrician certification.
• AREP/ SAPVIA PV Green Card certification (preferred).
• Up to 3 years of solar installation experience (roof and ground-mount).
• Experience with micro and string inverters and monitoring systems.
• MS Office Suite – Advanced Excel.
• Other relevant software such as Windows 10, ERP Systems, MES.
• Sound exposure in solar inverter testing (UPS and Rectifier) and PCB replacement.
• Knowledge of reading lithium battery BMS data via USB – RS232/RS 485 and upload to PC.
• Ability to analyse and mark MS Excel data for BMS alarms and protection events.
• Inverter firmware updates.

Responsibilities

• Installation of solar installations and commissioning the photovoltaic system from beginning to end.
• Installation of equipment
• Liaise with the project supervisor to review project plans and drawings.
• Ensure the project is built according to design
• Set up solar monitoring system
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operational issues
• Assemble the solar array racking, seal roof penetrations, and install equipment
• Installations will include residential, light commercial grid-tied PV systems, and large-scale industrial/IPP projects
• Report to and coordinate with the installation supervisor and engineering department to install PV system components
• Ensure compliance with regulations and procedures to prevent wasteful expenditure
• Maintain QA/QC emphasis on safety
• Ensure installations meet industry standards and SANS specifications
• Communicate with customers in a professional manner
• Keep project within budget and timelines

• Knowledge of reading lithium battery BMS data via USB – RS232/ RS 485 comms cable and upload to PC (screen clips and saving data)

• Ability to analyse and mark MS Excel data for BMS alarms and protection events

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Report to, coordinate and collaborate with the installation supervisor and engineering department to install all photovoltaic system components

Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure

• Maintain high levels of quality assurance and quality control, with emphasis on safety

• Ensure that all installations meet industry standards and codes.
