About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing renewable energy company, is seeking a dedicated Solar Energy Installation Technician to join their expanding team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. This role involves the physical installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential and commercial rooftops and ground mounts. You will work closely with the engineering and sales teams to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality installations. The ideal candidate will have experience with electrical wiring, roofing, and a strong understanding of solar technology principles. This is a hands-on position requiring physical fitness and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship in the Stellenbosch area. Key Responsibilities

• Install solar PV panels, inverters, racking systems, and associated electrical components according to design specifications and building codes.
• Perform electrical wiring of solar systems, connecting panels to inverters and integrating with the main electrical panel.
• Ensure all installations are completed safely, adhering to electrical codes, manufacturer guidelines, and company safety protocols.
• Conduct site assessments and identify potential challenges or modifications needed for optimal system installation.
• Mount racking and mounting hardware securely to various roof types and ground structures.
• Perform system testing and commissioning to ensure full functionality and performance.
• Educate clients on the operation and basic maintenance of their new solar PV system.
• Maintain a clean and organized worksite, ensuring all tools and equipment are handled responsibly.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to meet project deadlines and installation targets.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the installation process.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Solar Installation Technician or in a related field (e.g., electrician, roofer with electrical experience).
• Solid understanding of solar PV system components, electrical principles, and DC/AC power.
• Experience with mounting systems for pitched and flat roofs, as well as ground mounts.
• Proficiency in electrical wiring and conduit installation.
• Ability to read and interpret installation blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of local building codes and electrical regulations pertaining to solar installations.
• Strong physical stamina and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• NABCEP certification or equivalent electrical trade qualification is a significant advantage.
• Commitment to safety and working efficiently within a team environment in Stellenbosch.
