The Information Technology (IT) Division is the strategic partner of Stellenbosch University (SU) on the digital transformation journey. We provide exceptional digitally-enhanced experiences for our stakeholders in partnership with our internal and external stakeholders by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities and campus facilities, enhancing the transformative student experience, enriching teaching-learning-assessment and promoting student success, advancing research activities and processes by supporting the research journey and enabling social impact initiatives.

The Software Test Analyst is part of a project implementation and support team working directly with University staff and product vendors to carry out software testing responsibilities. The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products by designing, executing, and maintaining test cases in an Agile environment. The incumbent will work closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to ensure that software solutions meet business requirements and user expectations. The incumbent will also work independently with minimal supervision and at the same time coordinate activities with other team members. The Software Test Analyst will be expected to apply a high degree of expertise and advanced knowledge of software testing principles. A wide degree of initiative and creativity is expected.

Kindly note that this is a hybrid position. It will be expected of the incumbent to be able to work remotely from a reliable internet connection. There is an expectation that meetings will be scheduled in-person when required in Stellenbosch. The schedule and frequency of face-to-face engagements will be defined by the line manager and approved by the Line Management Structure.

Duties/Pligte

Test Planning and Design:

Analysing and understanding user stories, acceptance criteria, and business requirements to define test scenarios.

Designing and documenting test cases, test scripts, and test data based on functional and non-functional requirements.

Identifying and documenting test conditions, edge cases, and potential risks.

Test Execution and Defect Management:

Coordinating and executing the software testing effort.

Executing manual and automated test cases across different environments.

Identifying, logging, and tracking defects, working closely with developers and product owners to ensure timely resolution.

Performing regression testing, system functional testing, and user acceptance testing as needed.

Validating fixes and performing retesting before deployment.

Collaborating in Agile Teams:

• Participating in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Working closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to ensure requirements are testable and understood.
• Participating in various project team meetings as required.
• Providing feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement in testing processes.
• Identifying and recommending improvements in testing strategies and Agile best practices.
• Project and Change/Release Management:
• Attending relevant project meetings (showcases and refinement sessions) to understand the final functionality and align testing cases accordingly.
• Aligning with project timelines for releases and ensuring releases to production receives the necessary testing attention.
• Reporting to the Change Advisory Board (CAB) on readiness to release to production.
• Interacting with the role-players and stakeholders to better understand the product requirements.
  

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• NQF 7 qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline (e.g., a bachelor's degree) with at least two years' experience in the field of software testing, OR NQF 6 qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline (e.g., diploma) with at least four years' experience in the field of software testing, OR NQF 5 qualification (e.g. higher certificate) with at least six years' experience in the field of software testing, OR NQF 4 qualification (e.g. Matric, Senior Certificate)with at least eight years' experience in the field of software testing.
• Experience working as part of a Scrum team following Agile software development methods.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of technical writing techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient organisational and critical thinking skills.
• Proficient understanding of software testing methodologies (e.g., functional, regression, UAT).
• Proficiency in test management tools such as JIRA or similar.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.
• The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Skilled in fact-finding, data collection, and data analysis.
