Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a skilled software engineer to contribute to large distributed systems in an agile environment based in Johannesburg. The role emphasizes hands-on work with AWS services (Lambda, S3, SQS), REST/SOAP web services, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).

You will troubleshoot issues, write clear documentation, automate routine tasks, participate in design reviews, and help deliver robust features across platforms.

Qualifications

  • Experience developing and maintaining large distributed systems in an agile environment.
  • Strong AWS cloud experience (Lambda, S3, SQS, Step Functions, CloudWatch).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
  • Experience with Web Services (SOAP/REST) and parsing JSON and XML data.
  • Troubleshooting, documentation, and contributing to new features and functionality.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to automate routine tasks and develop automation scripts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Participate in planning, execution, and monitoring of platform upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
  • Familiarity with code coverage best practices.
  • Ability to work with internal and external technology resources.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for moderate complexity system components.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Knowledge of data manipulation languages.
  • Knowledge of data storage subsystems.
  • Knowledge of test-driven development.
  • Ability to complete moderately complex bug fixes.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve technical issues as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments.
