Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Cape Town is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead an engineering team focused on EC2 Instance Placement. You will translate customer needs into a product roadmap, guide multi-team initiatives, and drive the developer experience in a fast-paced, AI-enabled environment.

You will mentor engineers, manage delivery against aggressive plans, and foster an inclusive culture while maintaining strong operational excellence and agile practices across the team.

Qualifications

• Experience in leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Experience partnering with product and program management teams.
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.

Responsabilités

• Translate complex business and customer requirements into detailed project plans and schedules; manage day-to-day activities of the engineering team by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent, progressive strategy for our product line.
• Responsible for the over-all systems development life cycle.
• Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments.
• Management of departmental resources, staffing, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
• Evolution of the software engineering practice within the team, including better reporting, tools, and evolution of development methodology.
• Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology.
• Continue to build an effective development organization by driving the recruiting and hiring of senior level engineers, developing and managing the group, and conducting performance reviews of team members.
• Create and execute appropriate quality plans, project plans, test strategies and processes for development activities in concert with business and project management efforts.
