Job description

A formal tertiary qualification in Social Work (Bachelor of Social Work) that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker.

Grades and Experience:
  1. Grade 1: No experience.
  2. Grade 2: A minimum of X years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
  3. Grade 3: A minimum of Y years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
  4. Grade 4: A minimum of Z years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
Recommendation:

A valid (Code B or higher) driving license.

Key Performance Areas:
  • Render social work services related to the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through relevant programmes (case work, group work, and community work).
  • Attend to matters stemming from social instability in any form.
  • Supervise and support social auxiliary workers.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in social work and social welfare fields.
  • Perform all administrative functions required of the job.
Competencies:
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and prescripts (norms and standards).
  • Understanding of human behavior and social systems, with skills to intervene at points where people interact with their environments to promote social well-being.
  • Knowledge of social work theory and interventions.
  • Information and Knowledge Management skills.
  • Professional ethics and protocols.
  • Skills to challenge structural sources of poverty, inequality, oppression, discrimination, and exclusion.
  • Ability to assist, develop, advocate for, and empower individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
  • Proven computer literacy, report writing, self-management, planning, organizational, presentation, facilitation, client orientation, and customer focus skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to provide social work services to protect vulnerable and at-risk populations.
Remuneration:

Grade 1: R – R per annum, Grade 2: R – R per annum, Grade 3: R – R per annum, Grade 4: R – R per annum (OSD as prescribed).

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) packages include all related costs such as basic salary, medical assistance, housing, pension contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, benefits are funded or co-funded as per applicable agreements.
