Job Description

Duration: 17 June 2025 to 28 November 2025

The Organisation is looking for a Social Worker to join the Team. To execute the vision and mission of the Emergency Safehouse and to uphold the VEP norms and standards as well New World Foundation (NWF) ethos of clients accessing the centre for GBV related matters.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Therapeutic counselling interventions
  • Conduct initial interviews and screen all referrals.
  • Provide trauma debriefing and counselling services to all victims of violence and abuse.
  • Conduct assessments of all clients accessing the NWF Safehouse as well as walk-ins at the Centre via the Advice Office, aimed at identifying appropriate and relevant interventions.
  • Administration
  • Manage and maintain all file records, ensure that client files are up to date with accurate information.
  • Manage the administration of the onboarding process of new clients, ensure that all required forms are accurately completed.
  • Liaise and correspond with stakeholders regarding the placement of clients.
  • Generate and maintain a database of all statistical information.
  • Submit claim forms for subsidy purposes.
  • Manage the petty cash, complete reconciliations, keep record and proof of all expenditure.
  • Attend to staff meetings as well as meetings with stakeholders (WSM).
  • Programme design and development
  • Regularly review the NWF VEP / GBV programme with reference to prevention, risk mitigation, response, creating an enabling environment, training needs and supervision of VEP / GBV junior staff, volunteers and community workers.
  • Ensure that NWF programmes adhere to core principles like "do no harm," survivor-centeredness, rights-based approaches, gender-transformative action and care for carers.
  • Incorporate activities and services that addresses the root causes of GBV, engaging communities, and strengthening systems to ensure survivors have access to justice, protection, and support.
  • Networking
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to promote and market the safe house.
  • Build and maintain good work relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend networking meetings when required.
  • Reporting
  • Compile and submit quarterly reports for DSD, ensure that the information provided is relevant and accurate.
  • Compile and submit reports for outside agencies and ensure that the information is relevant and accurate.
  • Ad hoc
  • Facilitate VEP / GBV training as needed by other NWF programmes and for community stakeholders.
  • Support the Advice Office and Drop-In Centre with additional capacity when required.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Formal Tertiary Qualification in Social Work (e.g. Bachelor of Social Work) that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
  • Compulsory registration with SACSSP as a Social Worker.
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years appropriate experience in social work after registration as Social Worker with the SACSSP.
  • Knowledge of norms and standards of the Victim Empowerment Programme and relevant policies e.g. NSP on GBV.
  • A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence.
  • Proficiency in MS Office i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams are essential.
