Social Auxiliary Worker - Family Support Services
To work in the community with families in their life space to strengthen family life, support and monitor mentally ill clients and clients with addictions in the community, and to assist with SASSA grants.
Role and Responsibilities
- Casework
- Providing daily psycho-social support and basic counselling to families, parents, mentally challenged individuals, and people with addictions.
- Working in the life space of families with children to empower parents and significant others, and monitoring childcare.
- Accompanying social workers when assistance is needed.
- Assisting and facilitating home-based care services for mentally ill persons.
- Providing basic emotional support services to beneficiaries.
- Conducting home visits.
- Assisting with SASSA applications.
- Attending family meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members as needed.
- Providing auxiliary support services to social workers, including administration and family preservation services.
- Offering practical support such as banking, home affairs, and medical appointments with community members.
- Managing crisis situations, follow-ups, and monitoring, which may require after-hours and weekend work.
- Completing client process notes, intake psychosocial background reports, referral reports, and closing reports.
- Maintaining registers and statistics.
Group Work- Organizing and conducting groups to meet identified psychosocial needs.
- Conducting needs analysis and developing proposals accordingly.
- Facilitating groups for specific interventions with social workers when required.
- Maintaining files and records.
Community Work- Participating in and facilitating outreach projects.
- Maintaining records and registers.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team- Fostering collaborative relationships with social workers and other professionals.
Ad hoc Tasks / Administration- Completing administrative duties such as process notes, reports, assessments, and referrals.
- Liaising with professionals via email, phone, and attending meetings.
- Completing monthly statistics and relevant reports.
- Researching resources needed by social workers and beneficiaries.
- Transporting clients as required.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions is beneficial.
- Own reliable transport is essential.
- Registration with SACSSP preferred.
- Computer literacy in Word and Excel.
- High energy levels.
- Observation and basic counselling skills.
- Good command of English.
- Ability to work after hours when needed.
- Valid driver's license and own vehicle (non-negotiable).
