MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager by ensuring a safe and positive client experience through clinical risk mitigation and coordinated care delivery.

They also provide direct patient care and mentorship to new and student nurses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting clinical quality standards.

Manage the client experience.

Ensure optimal staffing resources are available, retained, and utilized effectively.

Build staff competence through continuous assessment and development.

Assist in managing operational expenses, including stock and capital.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for managing a specialist unit (e.g., Perioperative Nursing).

Experience

Minimum 3 years of Professional Nurse experience in a hospital setting.

At least 1 year of mentorship experience.

Skills and Knowledge

Pharmacology, nursing record keeping, and procedures.

Knowledge of nursing legislation, infection control, and scientific nursing principles.

Patient assessment and care planning skills.

Understanding of scope of practice for nurse practitioners.

Additional certifications such as ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS are preferred for specialized wards.

Risk identification and analytical skills.
