Job description

Qualifications:

1. BSc / BEng / BTech / BEng Tech in Civil Engineering.
2. Active registration with ECSA as a candidate engineer / technologist, with a willingness to learn and eligibility to obtain professional registration within the next 1-2 years (non-senior).
3. Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA (senior).
4. Minimum 3-8 years postgraduate experience in planning and designing road projects (freeways, interchanges, arterials, collector roads, urban streets) with proficiency in Civil 3D.
5. Hands-on experience with geometric design, workflows, and roadworks design using Civil3D.
6. Computer literacy in MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other relevant software.
7. Good knowledge of South African geometric design standards.
8. Experience in complex road geometric design and stormwater infrastructure associated with roads.
9. Experience in coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
10. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
12. Attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
13. Time management skills, proactive, practical, dedicated, deadline-driven.
14. Emerging leadership skills (non-senior) and strong leadership and management skills (senior).
15. Valid South African driver's license (minimum Code B) is advantageous.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Participate as a member of the road planning and design team on designated projects.
2. Report regularly to the Lead Engineer : Geometric Design or other Responsible Persons.
3. Research, compile data, evaluate technical and financial aspects, and prepare cost estimates and quotations (non-senior assists).
4. Design and produce technical drawings, reports, and documents for road and stormwater projects.
5. Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary, and detailed designs under supervision (non-senior).
6. Review drawings, designs, and reports for compliance with guidelines and quality standards.
7. Assist in preparing tender documents, specifications, and schedules of quantities.
8. Monitor and assist in site construction activities as required.
9. Conduct site inspections and assessments, and monitor construction activities.
10. Attend client and technical meetings, and document minutes.
11. Work towards professional registration with ECSA within 1-2 years (non-senior).
12. Prepare and submit monthly reports.
13. Manage technical outputs of direct reports (senior).
14. Engage in management, supervision, mentoring, and coaching (senior).
15. Participate in professional organizations and marketing initiatives.
16. Assist in business development activities.
17. Ensure compliance with quality and business management systems.
18. Research and publish technical papers for industry conferences.
19. Maintain professional development through training and courses.
