Sandown Motor Holdings (SMH), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck Southern Africa Ltd, is excited to announce a challenging opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to join our team at the Centurion Sandown Workshop. SMH is looking for a candidate who has a passion for commercial vehicles and is aspiring to become a qualified diesel technician.
Job Overview
This apprenticeship provides an opportunity to grow in the diesel mechanic trade field. The candidate will work under the supervision of a qualified technician.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintenance support:
- Ensure work carried out is authorized by relevant stakeholders.
- Meet DTSA prescribed flat rate times for repairs and services as a minimum standard, applying technical skills productively and efficiently.
- Carry out repairs as per job card.
- Seek supervisory support and advice when necessary during repairs.
- Customer service:
- Ensure utmost care of customer vehicles and property.
- Meet customer care standards at all times.
- Inform the Foreman and Service Advisor of potential issues and delays.
- Use seat covers at all times.
- Apply quality workmanship according to DTSA standards.
- Secure replaced parts and make them available for customer inspection.
- Administration and cost control:
- Complete job cards accurately.
- Conduct fault finding and report to relevant stakeholders.
- Adhere to warranty, maintenance, and dealer standards.
- Record hours worked accurately, noting any unclocked time in writing on the job card and signed by the foreman.
- Record material usage accurately.
- Attach ‘picking slips’ to the job card.
- Follow warranty and parts control systems.
- Handle vehicles carefully to avoid damage.
- Minimize wastage of materials, oils, and fluids.
- Submit completed job cards with relevant documents immediately after job completion.
- Housekeeping, SHE adherence:
- Use tools and equipment correctly and maintain them as per guidelines.
- Maintain good housekeeping and keep work bays organized.
- Comply with SHE and statutory requirements.
- Familiarize with and follow company policies and procedures.
- Self-development:
- Take responsibility for learning and development, including on and off-the-job training.
- Adhere to learnership/apprenticeship agreements with MERSETA.
- Ensure timely submission of training assessment portfolios.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science & English / Technical Matric / N2 in Mechanical Engineering/ N2 Diesel - Motor Mechanic
