Job summary

A leading company in the Transport Industry seeks a Skilled Technician to handle servicing and repairs of heavy commercial vehicle equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in vehicle maintenance, electrical and hydraulic systems, and a strong technical background. Candidates must be able to work autonomously while also providing supervision to junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5 years' experience in a heavy commercial vehicle workshop.
  • Certificate of Fitness (COF) and clear criminal record required.
  • Valid Code EC licence would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out defect inspections and report on heavy vehicle systems.
  • Perform services as per OEM requirements and oversee repairs.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Job description

My client in the Transport Industry is looking for an experienced Skilled Technician to join their team. The main purpose of the job is to carry out servicing and complex repairs to heavy commercial vehicle equipment which includes trucks, trailers and tankers and auxiliary equipment. This may include but is not limited to drivetrain components, suspensions, intermediate to advanced electrical and air braking systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.

Main responsibilities

  • Carry out a defect inspection and report on a truck, trailer, semi-trailer and lifting equipment (incl. braking systems, suspensions, structural components, electrical systems, hydraulics, auxiliary equipment and pneumatics).
  • Carry out the services as per OEM requirements.
  • To complete / oversee the repairs of any defects found.
  • Complete complaint, cause and correction on job cards for sign off by supervisor / foreman.
  • Complete all relevant administrative requirements, including, but not limited to service sheets, stores requisitions, technical data sheets etc.
  • Work according to OE and BWT standard repair times.
  • Use and understand diagnostic equipment.
  • Choose alternative ways of carrying out tasks (innovation).
  • Operate electrical and mechanical equipment pertaining to the job, i.e. power tools.
  • Carry out welding, grinding and assembling if required.
  • Work according to occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Supervision of employees, where applicable (incl. general worker, artisan assistant, semi-skilled worker and apprentice).
  • Helping where needed and carrying out any reasonable requests.

Minimum Requirements (

  • OE training and product knowledge pertaining to abnormal vehicle specifications
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of airbrakes
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of auto-electrical
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • In-depth knowledge of diagnostic equipment
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of engines, transmissions and drive lines
  • Understanding of technical data specifications and schematics
  • Demonstrates a technical aptitude and ability

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years-experience in a heavy commercial vehicle workshop
  • Grade 12

Other

  • Certificate of Fitness (COF)

  • Valid Code EC licence would be advantageous
