Job description

DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSIS:
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced Site Technician to join a respected multinational company servicing the Mining industry. This is a site-based, hands-on role - not your typical office job. Based in Johannesburg, the role involves frequent travel to key mining regions including Thabazimbi, Rustenburg and Polokwane - and occasionally international sites.
You'll manage a team and oversee installation, maintenance and repair of large-scale grinding machinery (Ball and SAG Mills) at various sites, ensuring equipment is aligned, operational, and compliant with safety and engineering standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Fitter Trade Qualification (or close to completion) or Qualified Millwright
• Additional technical or mining certifications will be beneficial
• Minimum 8 years of mining-related, site-based technical experience
• Hands-on knowledge of:
  o Grinding mills, especially Ball and SAG mills
  o Girth gears and pinions (incl. alignment)
  o Motors, gearboxes, and baseplate alignment
  o Bronze and white metal bearings

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Install, service and maintain large grinding mills at client mining sites
• Lead and coordinate on-site teams during installations and maintenance projects
• Align gears, baseplates and mechanical components to engineering specifications
• Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and operational standards
• Provide clear, detailed reports and documentation after each project
• Communicate effectively with engineers, managers and client stakeholders
• Travel extensively across assigned regions and support international projects as needed

SOFTSKILLS/ADDITIONAL INFO:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical knowledge of heavy mining machinery
• Able to lead and manage on-site teams under pressure
• Exceptional attention to detail and technical accuracy
• Reliable, independent, and comfortable working in demanding environments
• Excellent communication and reporting skills
• Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently, including to remote sites
• A team player with a proactive, hands-on approach
