Description

We are looking for a talented Site Manager to join our team, overseeing maintenance operations for Mogalakwena Platinum Mine. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Onsite Technicians to ensure effective servicing and maintenance of about forty (40) High Horsepower (HHP) engines, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, breakdown response, and execution of preventative maintenance strategies. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence while ensuring safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  1. Technical Leadership: Oversee the maintenance and repair of HHP engines, ensuring compliance with OEM guidelines and industry best practices.
  2. People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop onsite technicians (OST) and admin, ensuring high performance, skills development, and adherence to safety regulations.
  3. Quality Control & Health Checks: Conduct regular engine health checks, ensuring timely intervention to prevent breakdowns and maximize uptime.
  4. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools and technical expertise to identify and resolve engine issues efficiently.
  5. Repair & Maintenance Strategies: Implement and refine preventative maintenance plans to improve engine reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  6. Service Documentation: Ensure accurate service records, including Electronic Job Cards (E-job cards), WIP (Work in Progress) closure, and compliance with reporting procedures. This is inclusive of ensuring QuickServe Online (QSOL) standards are followed.
  7. Annual Operating Plan (AOP) Recovery: Drive maintenance cost recovery initiatives aligned with the Aftermarket Service Department's AOP objectives on OST, Parts, and Overtime.
  8. Remote Monitoring Implementation: Oversee the deployment and utilization of PrevenTech 2.0 for remote engine monitoring and proactive maintenance.
  9. Training & Development: Develop and execute training plans for onsite technicians, ensuring continuous skill enhancement and competency building.
  10. Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to mine site safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing compliance protocols.
  11. KPI Management: Track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as reliability (MTTR, MTTF, FTFR, TTR), uptime, service quality, and efficiency.
  12. Customer Relationship Management: Maintain strong working relationships with Komatsu and Anglo American, ensuring seamless communication and service delivery.
  13. Operational Reporting: Provide regular updates on maintenance activities, engine performance, and operational challenges to management.
  14. Parts & Inventory Management: Ensure the availability of critical engine parts and spares, optimizing inventory for smooth operations.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following Required Skills & Competencies:

  1. Strong technical knowledge of High Horsepower (HHP) engines, diagnostics, and repair strategies.
  2. Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams within a mining or heavy-duty equipment environment.
  3. Ability to develop and implement maintenance programs that enhance reliability and operational efficiency.
  4. Proficiency in remote engine monitoring tools (e.g., PrevenTech 2.0) for predictive maintenance.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in high-pressure environments.
  6. Strong safety awareness and compliance with mine site regulations.
  7. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly with OEMs such as Komatsu and major mining clients like Anglo American.
  8. Ability to drive cost recovery initiatives and align maintenance activities with business financial objectives.
  9. Capable of conducting technical training, mentoring, and skills transfer to onsite technicians.
  10. Strong WIP management and documentation skills, ensuring accurate service records and reporting.

Qualifications

  1. N6/ Diploma / Degree from a relevant technical institution or university (Preferred)
  2. Electrical certification (Optional)
  3. Valid driver’s license (Required)
  4. Significant field service work experience, preferably in a mining environment.
  5. Extensive knowledge of power generation and/or engine products.
  6. Experience in engine reliability strategies and remote diagnostics (Required)
  7. Familiarity with competitors and typical industry practices.
  8. High Voltage/Low Voltage practical experience (Preferred).
