Job summary

GE Vernova in South Africa seeks an Outage EHS Support Officer to implement and maintain the Outage EHS Plan and Management System. You will supervise site activities to ensure compliance with Life Saving Rules and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• OH&S Act and Regulations Certification.
• COID Act Certification.
• First Aid training certificate level 1.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Outage Manager/Site Leader to develop the Daily Outage Report and update the daily management display board.
• Carry out continuous inspections of the site areas (minimum 80% fieldwork).
• Act immediately on unsafe acts and conditions observed at site.
• Ensure compliance with GE Vernova Life Saving Rules, DIR-057, and EHS plans and work instructions.
• Support site disciplinary procedures and zero tolerance policy.
• Provide safety guidance to site personnel to prevent harm or damage to people, equipment and the environment.
• Liaise with site staff to report deviations and ensure closure.
• Lead by example in complying with site EHS rules.
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements for activities in area of responsibility.
• Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions.
• Carry out additional tasks as required by Site Leader to maintain EHS Management System.
• Present/attend daily toolbox talks.
• Develop Point of Work Risk Assessments.
• Ensure compliance with GEV Life Saving Rules, SP DIR-0057 and site requirements.

• Act immediately on unsafe acts and conditions observed at site
• Assist the Outage Manager/Site Leader in ensuring compliance of site activities with the GE Vernova Life Saving Rules, DIR-057, Outage Specific EHS (Environment Health & Safety) Plan, guidelines and work instructions.
• Support compliance with the site disciplinary procedure and zero tolerance policy.
• Provide support and advice to site personnel as to prevent harm or damage to people, equipment and the environment
• Liaise with site staff to have deviations reported and follow up on closure
• Lead by example in complying with the site EHS (Environment Health & Safety) rules.
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statement for all activities in area of responsibility
• Participate in incident investigations and review incident documentation for completeness, that correct information is captured and that sustainable measures are implemented to prevent re-occurrence
• Carry out any other specific task or duty defined by the Site Leader to support the implementation and maintenance of the site EHS (Environment Health & Safety) Management System.
• Present/attend daily toolbox talks
• Actively participate in the development of Point of Work Risk Assessments.
• Full compliance with GEV Life Saving Rules, SP DIR-0057 and site requirements verified through field audits
• Deviation reports / Outage EHS (Environment Health & Safety) Reports

Required Qualifications

• National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management or Environmental Health from an accredited institution or college.
• Minimum 3 years experience as SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions as a Registered CHSO (Construction Health Safety Officer) in Power Station.
• A recognized safety certification (minimum: of 2 weeks training) (e.g. SAMTRAC / Modern SHEQ Management course)
• OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) Act and Regulations Certification
• COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases) Act Certification
• First Aid training Certificate level 1
