Job summary

Department of Sports Arts Culture and Recreation invites applications for a SASL interpreter with a strong background in language practice. The role focuses on interpreting during official sessions, researching topics, and supporting language development initiatives in a government setting.

The position requires a Grade 12 certificate plus a National Diploma or Degree in Language Practice with SASL specialization, and at least 3 years of relevant experience including 2 years as a SASL

Qualifications

• Grade 12 certificate plus a three-year National Diploma (NQF 6) or Degree (NQF 7) in Language Practice specializing in SASL Interpreting/Linguistics or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years relevant experience with at least 2 years as a SASL interpreter.
• Experience in language development programs and translations advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Interpret during official sessions and prepare research on topics/audience.
• Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and edit documents as needed.
• Develop language awareness campaigns and maintain sign language databases.
