Job description

Are you a seasoned insurance leader ready to drive results in a dynamic claims environment? Our client is seeking an experienced Short-Term Claims Manager to lead and manage the full claims operations across all short-term insurance lines, including Building, Contents, and Portable Possessions.

This strategic role is central to delivering excellent customer outcomes, enhancing operational efficiency, and cultivating a high-performing claims team. We’re looking for a driven individual with a strong background in short-term claims and a passion for innovation, compliance, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the claims process – from first notification of loss (FNOL) through to final resolution.
  • Ensure service levels, key performance indicators, and regulatory requirements (including FAIS and TCF) are consistently met.
  • Optimize and streamline operational workflows and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Use data-driven insights from dashboards and reporting to implement strategic improvements.
  • Identify trends, operational risks, and gaps in the claims process; implement targeted enhancements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing claims team, fostering accountability and excellence.
  • Personally manage high-risk or complex claims to ensure timely and professional resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external service providers, assessors, and partners to ensure cost-effective claims fulfillment.
  • Foster a culture focused on innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Support senior leadership with planning, budgeting, reporting, audits, and other strategic initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • FETC: Short-Term Insurance (NQF Level 4).
  • RE5 Certification.
  • RE1 Certification.
  • Fully FAIS Fit and Proper for the relevant role.
  • A tertiary qualification in a related field is advantageous.
  • 5–10 years’ experience in short-term claims, including at least 3 years in a leadership/operations management role.
  • Proven ability to drive team performance, efficiency, and profitable outcomes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of home/property insurance and the end-to-end claims lifecycle.
  • Skilled in using claims systems, analytics dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Confident communicator, strong leader, and strategic thinker.
  • In-depth understanding of compliance, governance, and risk management within the insurance sector.
