Position Summary:
- This procedure describes the basic functions, reporting relationships, authority, and responsibilities of the Load Specialist I at S&P USA.
- The Job Description provides the performance criteria for the position. It also states the Job Requirements as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- The person occupying the position of Load Specialist I is responsible for loading cargo into trucks and moving or storing materials or products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Ensure proper loading patterns to prevent shifting or damage to materials or products during transit.
- Confirm documentation accuracy of all shipments, including weights.
- Verifies materials loaded against work order or bill of lading, ensuring correct box, crate, and fan count for later positive proof of shipment.
- Moves materials or products to storage areas or production departments.
- Responsible for ensuring proper tags, shipping labels, and packing slips are completed.
- Ensure 100% inspection of all shipments as part of Quality Check.
- Assist with daily UPS and RPS shipments.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, and discrepancies for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.
- Pull finished goods, pre-stage, and load shipping trucks.
- Compute amounts for space in staging area and truck space needed/available.
- Responsible for department organization, workflow, and housekeeping.
- Observe all company policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work additional hours to support the organization’s needs.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Logistics Supervisor or the Sr Planning Manager.
Educational Requirements:- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or at least one (1) year of related experience.
- Forklift certification required; or to be obtained within the initial 90 days of employment.
- Ability to read and interpret English documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mental Requirements:- Ability to communicate in English (read, write and speak) is required as the overwhelming majority of customers, vendors, co-workers, and suppliers communicate in this language.
- Reasoning ability is required to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form, as well as the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, as well as the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Physical Requirements:- The physical demands of the position are listed in accordance with the requirements of the ADA as:
Standing – up to one half of the time.
Walking – up to one half of the time.
Sitting – up to three fourths of the time.
Talking/Listening – up to three fourths of the time.
Use of hands – up to three fourths of the time.
Climb or Balance – up to one fourth of the time.
Stoop or Kneel – up to one fourth of the time.
Reach with arms – up to one half of the time.
- Body movements, lifting and exerting force – 50 pounds.
- The Senses necessary for the successful performance of this position are:
Hearing – the ability to communicate effectively.
Vision – the ability to record and prepare reports.
- The ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as eye protection, back protection, ear protection, etc. as necessary or required.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Environmental Conditions:The environmental conditions of the area in which the person shall perform his/her duties consist of ambient temperature variations, dust, fumes, and elevated noise levels found in a manufacturing environment in this geographical area.
Reporting Relationships:
The Load Specialist I is selected by, and reports directly to the Logistics Supervisor.
Authority:
The Load Specialist I has full operating authority to fulfill the responsibilities of the position as described in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities section of this Operating Procedure.
Performance Criteria:
